What's in those buns?!
Now I know that title sounds a little sketchy but you'll see what I mean. About a month ago I purchased poppy seed buns to go with the Chicago style beef Vienna Polish sausages I got from Sams club. I actually went overboard with the buns because my kids think they are weird and don't want the black dots on their buns so I had a whole bag left over. Anyway, those buns have been sitting on my microwave for a month untouched until the 4th of July. I barbecued hot Italian sausages and hamburgers. Now I usually don't eat much bread actually bread is very rare for me so you'll understand my upcoming issue. I'll admit I got carried away on the 4th, those Italian sausages were soooo good I had a few! I had purchased new regular buns for the Italian sausages and then looked and said hmm, I wonder if the poppy-seed buns are stale or moldy by now? I opened up the poppy-seed buns and found them to be fresh and mold free well past the stamped expiration date. The expiration date is June 16, 2019 by the way and there are still a few of them left that are still in a like new/fresh state! This is where it gets scary, I fixed those buns with my food so they wouldn't go to waste and they tasted perfectly fine. Afterwards I notice my inability to have a bowel movement, yes I know too much info, but seriously I go like clockwork and was immediately concerned. I drank more water than usual and just thought, hey I ate a few burgers and a few Italian Sausages so the bread was the culprit. One day lead to the next and I'm like OK, fruit maybe will help to get me moving along with the gallon of water I drink daily. Wrong answer, that didn't work either and we're moving on to day 2. By day 2, I was miserable but didn't want to take a laxative knowing I had to work uugh, so I went to work in agony. All throughout the night I was nauseated, broke out in cold sweats and was just miserable. I was so miserable I told my husband to get me some maximum strength Ex-lax and have it waiting by the time I got off. He did just that! After taking several doses throughout the day I finally got the relief I so long awaited and the whole ordeal got me thinking "Whats in those Buns!!". What on Earth is going into the bread these days where it doesn't mold, get hard or get stale?! This stuff literally stuck to me like mud and I don't like that one bit. When is the last time you've seen moldy bread? Its been quite a while since I've seen any and my kids don't finish a loaf as fast as they should. This gives me enough reason to explore other healthier bread options. I'm going to hold on to these buns and see if they ever mold or get hard!! ..Project Melanie
Ok, yeah, this was oversharing, but you're keeping it real here so I won't even trip!
ReplyDeleteThe part about the kids not liking "black dots" on their bread is HILARIOUS!!
We REALLY have to pay attention to what's in our food. Unless it's organic or has very simple ingredients... steer clear!
