Bump in The Road

As you can see, I have been missing for about a week now. This is due to me hitting a bump in the road. I was really strict with the things I was eating and was thrilled to finally be burning fat as evidenced on my ketostix. However that thrill was short lived. I mentioned before that I am a diabetic and take both insulin and pills to keep things in check. Being a diabetic and the strict high protein meals did not mix well.
After working 5 nights and looking forward to 5 off to relax and regroup, I found myself in the emergency room in excruciating pain. That night I had fallen asleep in my zero gravity recliner and woke up to use the bathroom. Upon standing up from the toilet, I felt the worst pain ever. The pain was so bad in my abdomen that I wasn't able to stand upright. Bent over holding my stomach, I shuffled to my bedroom and got in bed to see if the pain would go away. The pain got worse, in fact I started comparing the pain to labor pains. I shuffled back to the bathroom feeling like maybe I had to go again. While sitting on the toilet in pain, I began to sweat profusely. My daughter happened to be walking past and asked what was going on. I asked her to bring me a cold wash cloth because I was burning up and drenched in sweat. She brought the wash cloth and I managed to get back to bed, still in pain and crying. My daughter ran into my room and told me she had Googled my symptoms and felt I was having a heart attack. I assured her I wasn't and she then told me I need to go to the hospital. I told her she was stressing me out and to let me rest, I'd be fine with rest. Hard headed as usual, she then informed me she had called the ambulance. While at the hospital I was given a shot for pain and another for being nauseated. After the lab results came back, it was confirmed that I had  a urinary tract infection. I've heard others throughout the years describe how horrible the pain a urinary tract infection causes and now I know exactly what they meant! Sent home with antibiotics and anti-nausea medication, I became a bit sad. I knew my affliction was directly related to my new meal plan. The high amount of protein I was consuming was too much for my kidneys to keep up with and thus the end results, a trip to the E.R.

Not wanting to revamp my meal plan and being disappointed that I had hit this bump in the road, I fell off of the wagon. Yep I had a weekend full of Jersey Mikes and Q'Doba. I told you all that I would be honest, it ain't all gonna be pretty and its definitely not easy. Around Tuesday this week, I began to come back to reality and focus on revamping my meal plan. I'm still working on it but in the meantime I'm adding  yogurt to my regimen as well as cereal. As always I will update you on my progress as well as my shortcomings.. Project Melanie
